after effects tutorial

Really bad music. The person giving the tutorial doesn't seem very supportive. But this is what is out there for beginners, so that's that. Goes through very fast, not zooming, if you didn't know after effects at all,  it would be difficult to see what is going on...

Creating an experience

Still Standing

I really like all the messages that the interactive design communicate. The execution of them is impressive and well thought out. This is by the same designer that did the intraculator.

Designs are created to be understood and enjoyed at a glance, requiring no attention span. 'Most people in our society have the luxury to slow down and watch, but do not take the time. Television puts people in a comatose state without giving them a blank frame between shows to even think about something else. Still Standing is an installation that invites participants to stay motionless and contemplate its poetic content.

Still Standing consist of an amalgam of characters projected on the wall as if they were resting on the floor. When a participant walks in front of the projection, the first reaction of the text is to act as if it was being kicked, pushed by the user's feet. The user can keep moving around, pushing the text left and right. When the participant stops for a short moment, the text will be attracted towards the user's position and will move up, like water soaking his body. The participant can then enjoy a motionless moment and contemplate the textual content that becomes more and more legible. When the user is done and decides to start moving again, the text falls back to the floor and wait for a new interaction.'

Intralocutor

Brings a whole new meaning to intonation.

"
Intralocutor is designed to encourage observers and participants to reflect on how people affect one another with their words. Two participants enter the installation and begin to speak. A real-time video capture is made of the two and projected onto a wall behind them. The video has been altered so that all observers see is the silhouettes of the two. As they begin speaking, the speech of person A becomes visible, moves from person A's mouth and interacts with person B's silhouette. Depending on qualities of person A's speech such as speed, volume, pitch and rhythm, her words might bounce off person B silhouette, or penetrate it, or simply stick to the "skin". The appearance of the words also respond to the speech qualities; for instance, words said with stress appear elongated and shaky; words said with a heightened volume expand; words said with a quickened rhythm come out crowded together. ---like the foot-controlled section. Nice way of getting people to move and move with the animal.
